Zimbabweans protest contry's economic woes

Most shops and banks closed and the streets of Harare were deserted Wednesday as Zimbabweans staged a national protest against the government.
Zimbabweans largely stayed indoors in a national "stay-away" day known as Shutdown Zimbabwe 2016.

Snoop Dogg and The Game led a peaceful rally in downtown Los Angeles on Friday, with the group's final destination being the LAPD headquarters, where the newest class of cadets was graduating.

"This is how you make moves, man. This is how you get the understanding, get some dialogue with the new recruits before they hit the streets," Snoop said in a video posted to Instagram.

Thursday night, I attended a screening of the Roots reboot at the Tribeca Film Festival. While in the van on the way to the post-screening reception, I met Alondra Nelson — Dean of Social Sciences at Columbia University — and a conversation about Roots segued into a conversation about her work in genealogy, which then segued into the current relevance and popularity of unapologetic Blackness.
